Gopher Tortoise Day is our main annual outreach event to show our appreciation for the keystone species that helped fund the public purchase of Split Oak.
Activities:
- Observe Gopher Tortoise Burrows and Learn about GT Habitat and this important Keystone Species
- Guided Hike at 8 AM and 11 AM
- Self Guided Hikes All Day
- See what Gopher Tortoises Eat (Native Plant Exhibit)
- Tortoise Arts and Crafts with Mary Nesler (Family Friendly)
- Learn about Saving Split Oak Forest
- Free Giveaways
- Meet Sheldon, a real, live Gopher Tortoise with expert handlers; Sheldon is the "Mayor" of GT Day at Split Oak
- Witness signing Ceremony for GT Day Proclamation @ 10:30 AM +/- for photo ops
