SUMMARY:A Fung Time in the Woods with Jon Martin
DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION REQUIRED\n \n\n\n\nLearn wild mushrooms\, help save a forest! Join Fungi Jon for a Fung Time in the Woods at Split Oak Forest as we search for native fungi to identify and learn about together!\n\n\n\n\n\nThis guided mushroom walk & community mycology adventure will walk participants through the process of mushroom identification\, help participants become familiar with local mushroom species\, give participants an opportunity to contribute to mycology as citizen scientists\, and mush more!\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this special session\, 20% of class proceeds will be donated to Friends of Split Oak Forest in their efforts to saving the beautiful land we'll be learning on from the threat of a proposed toll road through the park.\n\n\n\n\n\nThis will be a comprehensive educational experience\, and best of all - an awesome time immersed in nature with great company! (Beware - there will be cheesy mushroom jokes)\n\n\n\n\n\nSliding scale suggested donation: $20-30\n\n\nPlease RSVP by registering at the link above. We will begin promptly at 10AM. Bring water\, closed toe shoes\, snacks\, and any other useful gear such as an umbrella\, hat\, sunglasses and/or sunblock. Rain or shine! Message or email fungijon@gmail.com with any questions.\n\n\n\n\n\nMush love!\n\n\n\n\n\nNote: Collections are normally restricted on this land for preservation of wildlife. Collections conducted within this class are permitted in cooperation with Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission (FWC) for educational demonstration and research. Collection of the fruiting body of a fungal organism (aka mushroom) presents no significant detriment to the organism itself. The benefit of infrequent collection of fungi for surveying and research in an area with limited data far outweighs any potential detriment in the removal of a fruiting body from its growing habitat.
